How To Beat Procrastination Using 30-10 Rule

I bet you, like me, suffer from a bit (or a lot) of procrastination sometimes. When I was in high school it would usually kick in when homework was due…when I was in university and an assignment was due, I’d all of a sudden have an urge to tidy my whole bedroom, take a nap and surf youtube for an unprecedented amount of time.

Here is a little tip to beat procrastination:

1) Think of something that you enjoy doing – for myself it’s always been dancing…also currently I’m kinda addicted to the fruit ninja game on Android.

2) Work for 30 minutes – Get a timer or alarm on your phone and literally do what work you have to do for 30 minutes…purely focus on that task/work.

3) Reward yourself with step 1 – Do the thing you enjoy for 10 minutes (9-10 one minute games of fruit ninja ‘arcade mode’) and then repeat step 2.

The key is resisting (at any cost) any form of temptation to do step 1 in the middle of step 2. When you push through it you should notice you got more done in those 30 minutes of focussed work than a whole day of “yeaaa, I’ll a bit now then finish it ‘later’”. This may not be easy and those 30 minutes will feel like a lifetime at first (Like when you’re at work and you think 1 hour has passed and it’s actually only been 7 minutes) but when you get into the swing of it you’ll find that you can go for longer.

Once you find 30 minutes easy, then extend it to an hour if you like…

…right, so now this blog post is done I’m going to play some fruit ninja 😉
