New Year No Resolutions – Create Something Better For Your Future

Happy New Year Everyone.

Did you make some resolutions this year? Did you achieve the resolutions you made last year?

I’m sure you, like me, noticed lots of updates on your Facebook news feed of people talking about last year and the “new start” for the new year. All this just reminded me of why I stopped doing resolutions years ago…..because they never get achieved – the visualisation and thinking is just too short term. Also if you fall off the path to your new resolution, in your mind, you’ll feel that you can only start again by there being ANOTHER NEW YEAR (and I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I will live on this physical plane forever).

 New Year Planning

Think Long Term

Instead of living year-by-year, what I find best is having goals because they feel more long-term. I used to think in terms of up to 5 year goals but last month I was talking with a Business/Life coach and had my thinking stretched to think in terms of 15 year goals – both financially and in lifestyle. When I started stretching my mind beyond the usual 5 years I felt the challenge of where I wanted to be by then, however by the end of just over an hour of focusing, writing and re-writing I felt a lot better and a sense of relief.

Define The Reason

“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

This quote says it all. For your goals there needs to be a reason big enough that will keep you going no matter what happens. By having this WHY it will validate your goals and make them more relevant to yourself. It can be anything that drives you, something important to you whether it’s seemingly “selfish” or not (don’t worry about what other people think or if they’ll understand – your goals are for YOU, not them).

Ready For 2014

I would just like to add that it doesn’t take a new year to reset or fix anything. Each day is a new day to start afresh….or break it down even more, start afresh in the next hour, or the next minute – the power is within you, YOU DECIDE.

Peace and Love.
