Motherly Life Lesson – Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’s Day and unfortunately I cannot be with mine today, (I am in London as I’m writing this). So I am dedicating this blog post to my mother (I am not enclosing a photo as she always says she’ll sue me….I assume she’s joking but I’d rather not test this theory, heehee).

Growing up I thought my Mum was too strict (although all my older brother’s and sister said I had it easy compared to them) as I used to compare myself to other children in my primary school. Now with hindsight I understand why she did what she did and brought me up the way she did and I am truly grateful.

My mother always believed that it would be benefit me more if I worked 10 times harder than my peers in school.

There was a time that I will always remember when I was 7 years old in primary school…It was when we started learning multiplication in maths. When I told my mother about this she got me so many books on multiplication to start learning (I don’t even think she knew how to multiply, but she learned with me) and got some of my brothers to help me too. She would make sure that after school I would get all my maths homework done, she would give me random tests throughout each day (e.g. I would be sitting watching Power Rangers on TV and she would shout from the other room: “JON! What’s 5 x 6?”). Often she would call me downstairs to the kitchen while she was making dinner and make me say my times tables from 1-12 normally, then do them backwards (and they had to be done quickly both ways)…

I always thought this was a pain and annoyance at the time but what was the result?

  • I could do my multiplication from 1-12 VERY quickly
  • I was top of my class
  • My teacher and headteacher used me as an example whenever visitors would come into school

Goes to show that “Mother always knows best”.

This is only one tiny example of my mother’s help and support in my 24 years on this earth. There is so much she has done for me and our family, for which I am truly thankful.

Love you 🙂

Mum is such

A special word

The loveliest

I’ve ever heard.

A toast to you,

Above all the rest

Mum, you’re so special

You are simply

the best.
